I've tried pretty much every Taqueria in San Mateo and this place has hands-down the best chicken tacos. Rice and beans are average. I'd say the huevos rancheros and the huevos con chorizo are both excellent as well. This restaurant has a solid spot in my Taqueria rotation.
Update: My favorite tacqueria in the bay area: My go to are always the tacos because of the homemade tortillas you can't go wrong with any of them but try some of the more unconventional they are my favorite: Carnitas, Cabeza, Tripe is great. The salsas are delicious too! I get delivery once a week to get my goat quesabirria with consome don't forget to add it to the notes!!! I live close so it always comes hot they are amazing! So much flavor and really made with care.
These are the best tacos I've had in the San Mateo/Belmont/Burlingame area. The tortillas are handmade, and the lengua was super tender and delicious. The tripe was crunchy and yummy. I typically got to Metate or Palenque around here - and I'll still go when I want a shrimp burrito but for street tacos, will head here and will no longer have to go all the way to RWC for tripe/lengua tacos. Service is really nice. I did order the quesabirria tacos, and they were good - but not 2x as good as the other tacos (they were 2x the price!)
Came here coz my fave tacos al vapor taco truck in Burlingame was closed on a Sunday. Ordered cabeza, birria and carnitas tacos. Cabeza tacos 9/10, birria and carnitas tacos 8.5/10. All well-seasoned and each meat texture was on point. Not a bad alternative to my loved taco truck. They have home made tortillas for extra charge but their regular tortillas were still satisfying. I wanna try their daily specials one of these days. Customer service was great especially that lady who helped us non-spanish speakers navigate their menu. They have parking in the back
First time here and it definitely didn't disappoint! Located a little off of downtown San Mateo so parking was a breeze. There is plenty of seating and is, in my opinion, cleaner than your standard taco joint. Lady at the register was super nice as well! I ordered: -2 carne asada taco 5/5 so crispy and delicious -cabeza taco 4/5 moist and tender -pastor taco 5/5 crispy and flavorful Overall, 4 tacos came to about $18 because I upgraded to their handmade tortillas which I definitely recommend! They hold all the fillings in and are larger than your normal street taco. They have two salsas on the table and I loved the green one (pretty tangy). Would definitely come again!
I'll start by saying that their lengua, pollo asado, chorizo, and carnitas are all excellent. Next, I'll say that I rarely get those items because their cabeza is the best I've ever had!! When ordered with their handmade tortillas, the cabeza tacos are like butter and just melt in your mouth! Their tripas are also the best I've ever had - tender and fatty inside with chicharrones-like specks on the outside. The other regular item in my rotation is their suadero which is also crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I eat a ton of Mexican food and don't come here as often as I'd like because it's a bit of a drive from where I live and it's somewhat pricey for tacos. Price aside, their cabeza, tripas, and suadero are phenomenal. Tip: Get the handmade tortillas for your tacos. They cost more but you also get bigger tacos with them.
The food was good & service was fast. Don't expect a fancy restaurant, it's more laid back with delicious food. Will definitely be back to try the beef/goat birria they serve on weekends.
I had the best tacos today.... Hand made tortillas, perfectly prepared carne asada and fresh garnish.... Try the hot chili oil.... Whoa! What a nice little spot..... I'll be back soon....
Hole-in-the wall taqueria that serves delicious Mexican food and only place in the area that serves warm champurrado, Mexican-chocolate based drink. This is my 2nd visit and not sure why it took me awhile to return. When my friend said she wanted champurrado on this cold day I was totally game. Opted to get a simple Super carne asada burrito and she a vegetarian sope with chips...everything tasted so fresh and delicious with their housemade tortillas and salsas 3rd time ever having champurrado with my first time when I was in Oaxaca about 15yrs ago...Warm, chocolate-based (not too sweet) beverage thickened with corn flour with a hint of cinnamon...and yes it would be wonderful with some crispy, sugary churros! Definitely great on a cold day! Service friendly, variety of menu items that offers the usual proteins: seafood, cabeza, lengua along with goat birrias. Located on busy E4th toward the entrance of Highway 101....street parking with a small lot in back. No outdoor seating available
